Addict Tackle Fishing Report
MACCIES ARE IN TOWN!!!
Finally we have had a week of great weather, which has allowed a lot of us to get out and wet a line, with some good reports of fish being caught offshore and inshore.
We will start with what has been happening offshore off the tweed, We have had some great reports of Spanish Mackerel hanging around the in close reefs around Fido’s and Nine Mile with most fish being caught either towing dead baits such as Garfish and Bonito or towing some deep diving lures such as Halco’s Deep Divers and Zerek Speed Donkey.
Some good size Mahi Mahi are being caught around the Tweed FAD but have been very picky with what they are feeding on at the moment, they are either taking livies, Pilchards or trolling 6in skirts around the FAD.
If your wanting to do some bottom bashing then there has been some reports of some Snapper, Pearl Perch and Tusk fish sitting around the 70-100 m mark. Best method of catching these have been using a paternoster rig with a fairly large lead to get down to the bottom, using baits such as Pilchards and Squid.
Beaches have still been a bit quiet over the last couple of weeks but we are starting to see some nice gutters which should start holding some good fish in the next week or so.
If your fishing a little further South than Tweed then east of Pottsville have been producing a good number of Spanish and Spotted Mackerel with a good show of reef fish on the closer reefs.
Inside the Tweed River has been fishing fairly well the last week with some good numbers of Bream, whiting and Flathead.
Best way to get your hands onto a good feed of whiting has been using surface lures in the middle and upper reaches of the Tweed River. Live beach worms have been working really well too.
Flathead have been found along a lot of the sand flats and drops offs using a variety of Soft Plastics and hard body lures such as Daiwa Double Clutch and Rapala Jerk baits.
Mangrove Jacks have still been causing havoc around bridge pylons, rock walls and pontoons with anglers either using live baits or hard body lures and swim baits.
Further south around Pottsville have been seeing some great catches of Flathead around the creek mouths using soft plastics and hard bodied lures and plenty of Jacks and Trevally around the banks being caught using surface lures.
For our Gold Coast fishos still good reports of Black Marlin east of the Seaway from 60-90m of water best results have been trolling skirts and live baiting.
Also Spanish Mackerel off Diamond Reef and Focus Reef with best results been using Hard Body lures trolling at 5-7 knots.
Good Luck and Tight Lines!!
