We all know you can troll for Murray cod, that’s no secret. In fact, there aren’t many fish that lend themselves so readily to trolling as the Murray cod. Given that they like large presentations, often require repeated offerings to strike, like to sit down deep, and aren’t particularly afraid of boats passing overhead, it really isn’t surprising that they respond so well to this technique.
Fishing the freshwater streams in the tropical north of Queensland is something that needs to be on every anglers’ bucket list. The beautiful, clear streams that harbour thousands of hungry predatory fish as visually striking as the environment they live in, are a sportfisher’s dream.
In a previous post we looked at collecting shrimps in freshwater using bait traps, now we’re going to look at converting them into fish! Freshwater shrimps are one of, if not the best bait in freshwater, especially in the stocked impoundments, and are a great for getting kids into freshwater fishing, or if you just want to relax out on the water!
In the freshwater, there are few better baits than the humble shrimp. Everything from spangled perch to Murray cod will have a go at a shrimp, and with certain species, such as bass and golden perch, it seems like you can catch as many as the number of shrimp you have!
